2017 J.D. Power Dependability Awards Dominated by Toyota

July 14th, 2017 by

Dependability isn’t reserved for just the luxury brands. To emphasize the point, Toyota went to town, winning 10 of the segments for the 2017 J.D. Power Dependability Awards. Well done, Toyota.

What Do the 2017 J.D. Power Dependability Awards Mean?

The study by research giant, J.D. Power, takes into consideration problems car owners experience on three-year-old models of all kinds. It ranks vehicles based on the number of problems reported per 100 vehicles.

It’s an important ranking as consumers are increasingly wary of purchases that lack in dependability. Dave Sargent, vice president, global automotive at J.D. Power, said, “We find buyers are increasingly avoiding models with poor reputations for dependability, so manufacturers can’t afford to let quality slip, particularly on their best sellers”.

And Toyota did not let quality slip, moving up the rankings by one place, following only Lexus and Porsche.

Which Awards Did Toyota Capture?

In the 2017 J.D. Power Dependability Awards, Toyota took home several top places.

  • Toyota is the highest-ranked non-premium brand, and third place overall.
  • Toyota Prius is the highest-ranked compact car.
  • The Toyota Camry is the top-ranked midsize car.
  • Toyota Avalon is the highest-ranked large car.
  • The Toyota Prius v is the top-rated compact multi-purpose vehicle (MPV)
  • Toyota FJ Cruiser is the best compact SUV in dependability.
  • The Toyota Venza is the top-rated midsize SUV in the awards.
  • Toyota Sienna is the most dependable minivan according to the awards.
  • The Toyota Tundra follows only the Ford F-150 in dependability.

In fact, of the 18 segments that are rated, Toyota took home the 2017 J.D. Power Dependability Award in 10 of them.

Why is it Important?

Toyota’s awards signal the companies extreme commitment to quality manufacturing. You can expect that among mechanical, cosmetic, safety, and performance systems, your Toyota will be more reliable than virtually any other car on the road today.

That means less interruptions and annoyances in your day, less repair costs, and higher satisfaction and resale value in your vehicle.
