How to Adjust the Power Liftgate

On Toyota SUVs and the Sienna minivan, one of the most convenient options you can get is a power liftgate. Honestly, who would’ve thought such a simple feature would make such a difference in your everyday life? But that power liftgate can’t be used in some situations as it is. If it’s opened under a low parking garage ceiling height or overhead door the power liftgate could hit it and scratch, dent, and ding your new Toyota. But did you know you can adjust the power liftgate height?
It’s true, and Quentin Daniels from Jay Wolfe Toyota shows you how.

Adjusting the Power Liftgate Height

So your liftgate opens too high. Or maybe you’re tall and need it to open up more. Adjusting the power liftgate is a simple procedure that requires no tools, special knowledge, or voodoo spells.
Open the power liftgate all the way. That’s easy enough, isn’t it?
Press the power liftgate button to close it. That’s the black rubber button you see at the edge of the door when it’s open.
When the liftgate lowers to the height you’d like to set its upper limit, press the button once again to stop it. It stops immediately.
Now, get program the height. Press the button, but this time, hold it for a few seconds. You’ll hear one long beep followed by four short beeps. If that’s what you’ve heard, it programmed successfully.
Test it out. Press the button once to close it, then open the door again. It stops at the height you’ve just programmed. It’s okay to be proud of yourself.

Lock All the Doors from the Liftgate

Another tidbit you’ll find helpful. After you’ve closed the liftgate, there’s no need to reach into your pocket for the key fob or run to the front door to lock all the doors. Beside the liftgate release button, you’ll feel a smaller button. With all the doors and the liftgate closed, just press and release this button. All the doors will lock and your Toyota is secure.
