How Toyota’s Pre-Collision System Helps You
You’re cruising along Michigan Avenue, listening to your favorite band through your Toyota’s Entune audio system in your Camry. As you get to the chorus, you lean your head back and belt out the words at the top of your warbly voice. What you haven’t noticed with your head back and a single tear in the corner of your eye is the truck that’s just pulled into your lane and started slowing down. What happens next is magic – actually, it’s Toyota’s Pre-Collision System.
Every driver has been there. A slight distraction takes your eyes off the road for just a moment. That’s all it takes for something to happen, and you need to react immediately. When you’re not quite in touch with the traffic around you, Toyota’s Pre-Collision System steps in.
What is Pre-Collision System All About?
Pre-Collision System is part of the Toyota Safety Sense System, a suite of safety-minded features that is standard on many new Toyota models. It uses forward-sensing technology such as a camera and a laser or radar to detect obstacles in your path.
- When your Toyota detects that you’re closing in on something ahead of you, the first step is a warning. You’ll get a visual cue and an audio tone to alert you to a danger ahead.
- If you respond to the alert and hit the brakes, the Toyota Pre-Collision System may help you stop or minimize the collision by activating Brake Assist.
- If you don’t respond to the warning, your Toyota may activate your car’s brakes on its own, helping you avoid the collision or reduce the severity of the impact.
Toyota Pre-Collision System is part of the Toyota Safety Sense package. Other features may include Lane Departure Alert, Automatic High Beams, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and other safety-focused technologies.
