Is a Toyota Hybrid Right for You?
Years ago, the only option you had when buying a car was the size of the engine: a V8, V6, or a four-cylinder. In today’s world, more options exist, and that includes new powertrain options. Many Toyota models combine an efficient four-cylinder gas engine with an electric-powered generator. Doing so extends the driving range and improves fuel efficiency. But is it right for you?
Explore a few different aspects of the Toyota hybrid lineup to determine if it would work for your needs.
Can a Toyota Hybrid Tow?
You’d imagine that driving a hybrid is all about getting the best gas mileage in the city. But you might want to leave the city limits from time to time, and you bring your boat or trailer with you. Can a Toyota Hybrid handle it?
It depends which one, obviously. A Toyota Prius or Corolla isn’t the best option for towing. However, if you choose the Toyota Highlander Hybrid, it has a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. That’s plenty of capacity for most recreational needs. The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid also has a tow capacity of 1,750 pounds, giving you options.
Is it More Expensive to Maintain?
You might’ve heard how expensive hybrid batteries can be. Yet, the cost to maintain a hybrid vehicle is about the same as a traditional gas-powered car. There’s very little attention required for the electric motor and it can even reduce the maintenance required on other components. Besides, a hybrid battery is warrantied to last at least eight years. That means it will likely be in service for many years beyond that.
Is a Toyota Hybrid Fun to Drive?
You don’t want to trade away your driving experience for fuel efficiency. But with a Toyota hybrid, you don’t have to. Hybrids are available with 2.5-liter four-cylinders, 3.5-liter V6 engines, and 1.5-liter four-cylinder engines. You have options when it comes to power and sporty operation, regardless of how you like to drive.
