Is Your Toyota Ready for Winter Driving?

December 9th, 2016 by

It’s not long until the ground will be covered in a sheet of white. And while the winter wonderland scene can be beautiful, it’s a nightmare for your vehicle. The challenge is in preparing for the cold spell. Are you and your Toyota prepared for winter driving?

Not much is necessary to get you ready, but you don’t want to leave it until it’s too late. Do these few things to make sure you’re ready for winter driving this season.

Stick to the Road

Only your tires make contact with the road; no other part of your car. If your tires aren’t able to grip the road, you can be certain that you vehicle will travel in the same direction as you steer your car.

Proper traction comes from your tires. You need at least 4/32nds of tread remaining on your tires for safe winter driving, although more is better. Your tires should also be all-season or winter tires. The rubber used for summer tires won’t remain pliable in cold weather.

If you need new tires for your Toyota, Jay Wolfe Toyota can get you equipped with a new set.

Your Car Should Start – Every Time

After a few years, your car’s battery just doesn’t hold its charge as well. In winter driving conditions, the last thing you need is to be stranded with a dead battery.

Have your battery tested before the snow and cold weather hit. If your battery is weak or fails a battery load test, replace it with a genuine Toyota battery at Jay Wolfe Toyota.

Remove the Winter Driving Blinders

Nothing tells you that your wiper blades aren’t good like the first snowfall. When your wipers just leave streaks and constantly ice up, it’s time to change them. It’s a great idea to replace your wipers annually anyway, so why not right before winter?

Pre-Winter Inspection

Have your Toyota looked over before winter hits. If you have loose or worn steering or suspension components, have them fixed. If your brakes are worn out, get them changed. If your coolant strength isn’t good enough, get the cooling system flushed. Winter is hard on your car, so help it get through the season unscathed.
